NASA VisionWhat’s the deal with NASA?  As relayed by Space Politics, NASA has fallen so far that they can’t even get an op-ed from the Administrator (or the White House) into either the New York Times or Washington Post.

[Director of the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy John] Holdren described how he and [NASA Administrator Charles] bolden [sic] tried to get published an op-ed intended, as he put it, to “knock down, in succession, five of these misconceptions” about the administration’s plans. That op-ed was submitted but rejected by the Washington Post and the New York Times; it eventually appeared in POLITICO last month. “We couldn’t get it published. Nobody would take it,” he said, his exasperation clearly evident even those listening in to the presentation via telecon. “It’s been quite frustrating.”

Why wouldn’t these preferred media sources run the piece?  Perhaps due to minimal public interest, low political interest, other circulating topics of much greater interest, and no change from the existent position (which itself is drawing little interest from the public and the media, and just a bit more from space-interested politicos).
