Wanted: A Few Good Satellites (or A Few Good-Enough Alternatives?)

Catastrophic failure is such a drag.  But less spectacular degradations and malfunctions are also a part of space life.  Consider AEHF-1, New Dawn, and Globalstar.

Risk, pedestrian, extraordinary, and intentional, is no-doubt why prudent military thinkers are pondering how (or if it is possible) to defend space and what (if any) are the cheaper, better, faster, more redundant and robust options to space-delivered capability.
