The comment of the week comes from an article at Foreign Policy on the recently released Army one-star list:
…we’re wracking our brains about what strategic geniuses we need, and looking for GOs who can think their way through walls, break bricks with their heads etc… The primary cause of out strategic blindness is caused by our Civilian Bosses. We’re constantly dragged into impossible situations.
What GOs need above all is moral courage, they don’t ALL need to be strategic geniuses. The gold standard is the Prusssian tradition of; "absolute frankness, even towards the King". How do we get that?
Although the comment is phrased as both a suggestion and a question, all I can offer is this: well said.
