Turning Japanese? I Really Think So

Japan’s only functioning radarsat is probably dead.

Japan’s Cabinet Satellite Intelligence Center said the nation’s lone surviving radar-imaging satellite had a battery-related glitch Aug. 23 that took the spacecraft out of service.

Curse you, dreaded glitch!

The satellite is one of four–and the only radarsat–that Japan uses to observe, among other things, North Korea.

The glitch is expected to be terminal as the prospects for recovery are described as extremely grim and it appears the radarsat’s predecessor may have suffered a similar power-related demise.
