AMS Payload Circled And On The ISS

A very expensive scientific and engineering sandbox, the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer, has shown up at the Cape and is being readied for launch.

The AMS will be delivered to the International Space Station via the Space Shuttle near the end of February 2011. When you add in the cost to launch, the total experiment will probably total $2.5 billion.

What will the AMS provide? An ISS hosted instrument package designed to seek out “the dark universe” and aimed at learning about the origins and structure of the universe.

OK, what does that get us?  Knowledge, and as Emil Faber taught, knowledge is good.
