While its easy to think of lousy movies, thinking of lousy movies that are overrated, or better yet, lousy space movies that are overrated is a much more interesting and appropriately narrowed topic of discussion.
How about 2001: A Space Odyssey as the nominal leading candidate?
The link above gives a great lay down of all sides of the issue. IMHO, if you want good Kubrick, start with Paths of Glory and proceed to Dr. Strangelove. 2001 does have some of the most attractive film work of all time (once you clear the monkey-suits in the beginning), but that doesn’t make up for a lack of clarity, story, or interesting characters.
